Pause

Do you feel near to God? He tells us in scripture that He is everywhere and that He walks with us.

The Bible mentions some ways that we can draw close to Him: trusting in Jesus (first and foremost), reading scripture (which we’re doing today), prayer, repenting of sin, and more.

What can you do to feel a greater sense of connection to God? If you’re unsure, ask Him! He is a good Father, and though He sits on a throne, we are invited to come before Him boldly. Take a moment to approach Him now.

Matthew 6:9-13  NIV

“This, then, is how you should pray:
‘Our Father in heaven,
hallowed be your name,
your kingdom come,
your will be done,
on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us today our daily bread.
And forgive us our debts,
as we also have forgiven our debtors.
And lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from the evil one.’”

Walk with God

There’s a good chance you’ve seen this passage of scripture before. Have you? What stood out to you as you read through it today?

In these verses, along with those from yesterday’s reading, Jesus asks the crowd to resist praying simply to get attention, using showy language intentionally in public spaces. In contrast, what’s different about the example of prayer He gives us in today’s passage?

What kind of feedback do you think Jesus might give you about your own prayers? Ask Him, then try praying in a new way. If you’re not sure where to start, try using His prayer example above, adding in your own words.
