Let your Yes be Yes
Pause
Welcome to day 1!
Our hope as we begin this time of prayer and fasting is that we’d all get to know Jesus better and become more like Him. One way we can be more like Him is in the way we use our words.
Take inventory of how you use your own words. Are they truthful? Do your words bring hope and life to others? It is possible to change the way you think and speak. Be humble, and invite the Lord into the way you use your words.
Reset
“Again, you have heard that it was said to the people long ago, ‘Do not break your oath, but fulfill to the Lord the vows you have made.’ But I tell you, do not swear an oath at all: either by heaven, for it is God’s throne; or by the earth, for it is his footstool; or by Jerusalem, for it is the city of the Great King. And do not swear by your head, for you cannot make even one hair white or black. All you need to say is simply ‘Yes’ or ‘No’; anything beyond this comes from the evil one.
Reflect
In what ways do you need to receive God’s grace and help for your words, commitments, and follow through?
