Next Generation Church
Luke 5:4-10 NKJ
When He had stopped speaking, He said to Simon, “Launch out into
the deep and let down your nets for a catch.” But Simon answered
and said to Him, “Master, we have toiled all night and caught nothing;
nevertheless at Your word I will let down the net.” And when they had
done this, they caught a great number of fish, and their net was
breaking. So they signaled to their partners in the other boat to come
and help them. And they came and filled both the boats, so that they
began to sink. When Simon Peter saw it, he fell down at Jesus’
knees, saying, “Depart from me, for I am a sinful man, O Lord!” For
he and all who were with him were astonished at the catch of fish
which they had taken; and so also were James and John, the sons of
Zebedee, who were partners with Simon. And Jesus said to Simon,
“Do not be afraid. From now on you will catch men.”
Luke 5:36-39 NKJ
Then He spoke a parable to them: “No one puts a piece from a new
garment on an old one; otherwise the new makes a tear, and also the
piece that was taken out of the new does not match the old. And no
one puts new wine into old wineskins; or else the new wine will burst
the wineskins and be spilled, and the wineskins will be ruined. But
new wine must be put into new wineskins, and both are preserved.
And no one, having drunk old wine, immediately desires new; for he
says, ‘The old is better.’”
Questions We Are Asking:
- How do we get current generation leaders to release control to next
generation leaders? - How do we attract the next generation without compromising the
Word? - How will the church look different in the future?
Generation Z: Children and teenagers
Millennials: Young adults (18-30)
Post Christian Culture:
• View church and Christians as irrelevant and out of touch
• View church leaders as judgmental and untrustworthy
• Generally view life with a liberal mindset
• Most diverse generation in American history
• Believe primarily in religious pluralism or syncretism
• Majority of their relational life and time is online
Characteristics of the Next Generation Church:
- Compelling vision that emphasizes action over attendance
