Moving Forward in Your Mind
Philippians 3:12-14 NKJ
Not that I have already attained, or am already perfected; but I press
on, that I may lay hold of that for which Christ Jesus has also laid
hold of me. Brethren, I do not count myself to have apprehended; but
one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind and reaching
forward to those things which are ahead, I press toward the goal for
the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.
Proverbs 23:7 NKJ
For as he thinks in his heart, so is he. “Eat and drink!” he says to you,
but his heart is not with you.
Romans 12:2 NKJ
And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the
renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and
acceptable and perfect will of God.
Romans 12:2 NLT
Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God
transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then
you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing
and perfect.
James 1:6-8 NKJ
But let him ask in faith, with no doubting, for he who doubts is like a
wave of the sea driven and tossed by the wind. For let not that man
suppose that he will receive anything from the Lord; he is a doubleminded man, unstable in all his ways.
Moving Forward in Your Mind:
- Exchange my carnal mind for a spiritual mind.
Romans 8:5-8 NKJ
For those who live according to the flesh set their minds on the things
of the flesh, but those who live according to the Spirit, the things of
the Spirit. For to be carnally minded is death, but to be spiritually
minded is life and peace. Because the carnal mind is enmity against
God; for it is not subject to the law of God, nor indeed can be. So
then, those who are in the flesh cannot please God.
2 Corinthians 5:17 NKJ
Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have
passed away; behold, all things have become new.
1 Corinthians 2:13-16 NKJ
These things we also speak, not in words which man’s wisdom
teaches but which the Holy Spirit teaches, comparing spiritual things
with spiritual. But the natural man does not receive the things of the
Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him; nor can he know them,
because they are spiritually discerned. But he who is spiritual judges
all things, yet he himself is rightly judged by no one. For “who has
known the mind of the Lord that he may instruct Him?” But we have
the mind of Christ.
2 Corinthians 10:3-5 NKJ
For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war according to the flesh.
For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal but mighty in God for
pulling down strongholds, casting down arguments and every high
thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, bringing every
thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ…
STRONGHOLD: a spiritual fortress constructed to keep something
out, as well as protect something within
You Break Strongholds By:
- Reading the Word
- Speaking the Word
- Meditating on the Word
- Fellowshipping with people of the Word
GUILT: You feel badly about what you did!
SHAME: You are a bad person!
- Exchange worldly philosophy for Christ philosophy.
RIGHTEOUSNESS and JUSTICE
Psalm 89:14 NKJ
Righteousness and justice are the foundation of Your throne; mercy
and truth go before Your face.
Psalm 97:2 NKJ
Clouds and darkness surround Him; righteousness and justice are
the foundation of His throne.
Psalm 33:5 NKJ
He loves righteousness and justice; the earth is full of the goodness
of the Lord.
RIGHTEOUSNESS: LIVING RIGHT – conforming to a moral code
predicated by God’s Word
JUSTICE: DOING RIGHT – correcting the injustices of society;
defending the poor and marginalized
Worldly Philosophy: survival of the fittest
Christ Philosophy: empowerment of the least
Worldly Philosophy: separates people based on race, culture,
education and achievement
Christ Philosophy: joins people in equality through the redemption
of the cross
Worldly Philosophy: uses worldly possessions to drive you to be
successful
Christ Philosophy: uses eternal values to motivate you to
significance
Worldly Philosophy: value is measured by money, position and
what people say about you
Christ Philosophy: value is measured by changed lives,
advancement of the Kingdom and what God says about you
Worldly Philosophy: focus is on building up self-esteem and feeling
good about yourself and your accomplishments
Christ Philosophy: focus is on building up Christ-esteem and feeling
good about doing His will
Worldly Philosophy: “I’m in control of my own destiny.”
Christ Philosophy: “I must yield control of my destiny to God.”
Worldly Philosophy: “There is no absolute truth; therefore, whatever
I deem to be true is just as valid as what you deem to be true.”
Christ Philosophy: “God’s Word is truth; therefore, whatever I deem
to be true has to be submitted to what the Word of God says.”
Worldly Philosophy: “Social morality is based on popular opinion
and what I feel is right or wrong.”
Christ Philosophy: “Social morality is based on God’s opinion
regardless of what the world or I feel is right or wrong.”
Worldly Philosophy: Live life to the fullest.
Christ Philosophy: Live in Christ to the fullest!
Romans 12:2 NKJ
And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the
renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and
acceptable and perfect will of God. - Let go of the past and embrace the future.
Galatians 3:26-29 NKJ
For you are all sons of God through faith in Christ Jesus. For as many
of you as were baptized into Christ have put on Christ. There is
neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free, there is neither
male nor female; for you are all one in Christ Jesus. And if you are
Christ’s, then you are Abraham’s seed, and heirs according to the
promise.
Galatians 4:4-7 NKJ
But when the fullness of the time had come, God sent forth His Son,
born of a woman, born under the law, to redeem those who were
under the law, that we might receive the adoption as sons. And
because you are sons, God has sent forth the Spirit of His Son into
your hearts, crying out, “Abba, Father!” Therefore you are no longer a
slave but a son, and if a son, then an heir of God through Christ
