How Money Can Get Us Into Trouble:
• Student loans
• Purchasing or leasing a car
• Committing to an apartment/house
• Using credit cards
• Entertainment/travel
• Impulse buying
PROVERBS 22:7 NIV
The rich rule over the poor, and the borrower is SLAVE to the lender.
MATTHEW 6:24 NLT
“No one can serve two masters. For you will hate one and love the
other; you will be devoted to one and despise the other. You cannot
serve God and be enslaved to money.”
Money Principles to Live By:

  1. Dependency Principle
    MATTHEW 19:29 NIV
And everyone who has left houses or brothers or sisters or father or
mother or wife or children or fields for my sake will receive a hundred
times as much and will inherit eternal life.
  2. Ownership Principle
    3 Levels of Control:

  1. God is in control of money.
  2. You are in control of money.
  3. Money is in control of you.
    1 CHRONICLES 29:11-12 NLT
“Yours, O Lord, is the greatness, the power, the glory, the victory, and
the majesty. Everything in the heavens and on earth is yours, O Lord,
and this is your kingdom. We adore you as the one who is over all
things. Wealth and honor come from you alone, for you rule over
everything. Power and might are in your hand, and at your discretion
people are made great and given strength.”
God is the owner. I am the manager.

3. Contentment Principle

1 TIMOTHY 6:6-10 NLT
Yet true godliness with CONTENTMENT is itself great wealth. After
all, we brought nothing with us when we came into the world, and we
can’t take anything with us when we leave it. So if we have enough
food and clothing, let us be content. But people who long to be rich
fall into temptation and are trapped by many foolish and harmful
desires that plunge them into ruin and destruction. For the LOVE OF
MONEY is the root of all kinds of evil. And some people, craving
money, have wandered from the true faith and pierced themselves
with many sorrows.
LUKE 12:15 NKJ
And He said to them, “Take heed and beware of covetousness, for
one’s life does not consist in the abundance of the things he
possesses.”

4. Trust Principle
PROVERBS 3:5-6 NKJ
Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own
understanding; in all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct
your paths.
PROVERBS 3:7-10 NKJ
Do not be wise in your own eyes; fear the Lord and depart from evil. It
will be health to your flesh, and strength to your bones. Honor the
Lord with your possessions, and with the firstfruits of all your
increase; so your barns will be filled with plenty, and your vats will
overflow with new wine.
MALACHI 3:8-10 MSG
“Begin by being honest. Do honest people rob God? But you rob me
day after day. You ask, ‘How have we robbed you?’ The tithe and the
offering—that’s how! And now you’re under a curse—the whole lot of
you—because you’re robbing me. Bring your full tithe to the Temple
treasury so there will be ample provisions in my Temple. Test me in
this and see if I don’t open up heaven itself to you and pour out
blessings beyond your wildest dreams.”

5. Generosity Principle
ACTS 2:44-45 NKJ
Now all who believed were together, and had all things in common,
and sold their possessions and goods, and divided them among all,
as anyone had need.
ACTS 4:32-34 NKJ
Now the multitude of those who believed were of one heart and one
soul; neither did anyone say that any of the things he possessed was
his own, but they had all things in common. And with great power the
apostles gave witness to the resurrection of the Lord Jesus. And
great grace was upon them all. Nor was there anyone among them
who lacked; for all who were possessors of lands or houses sold
them, and brought the proceeds of the things that were sold …
1 TIMOTHY 6:17-19 NIV
Command those who are rich in this present world not to be arrogant
nor to put their hope in wealth, which is so uncertain, but to put their
hope in God, who richly provides us with everything for our
enjoyment. Command them to do good, to be rich in good deeds, and
to be generous and willing to share. In this way they will lay up
treasures for themselves as a firm foundation for the coming age, so
that they may take hold of the life that is truly life.
