Help Is on the Way

by Johnson Bowie
In Matthew 5:4, Jesus says these words: “Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted.” While grief can feel heavy and all consuming, He has promised us comfort when we choose to acknowledge it rather than numb the pain. When we allow ourselves to mourn, when we make space for the Holy Spirit to come in and help, we can rest assured that He will meet us right where we are and bring healing as He walks with us. We have the hope of true comfort in the One who has known grief for Himself but has overcome it all. We are blessed!
Sermon Notes

Matthew 7:24-25 NIV

“Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock. The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock.”

Makarios: (Greek) // Blessed, Happy, Fortunate

Matthew 5:4 NIV

“Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted.”

How Do I Mourn God’s Way?

1) Choose to TRUST

Romans 8:18 NLT

Yet what we suffer now is nothing compared to the glory he will reveal to us later.

Romans 8:28 NLT

And we know that God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to his purpose for them.

Romans 8:38-39 NLT

And I am convinced that nothing can ever separate us from God’s love. Neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither our fears for today nor our worries about tomorrow—not even the powers of hell can separate us from God’s love.No power in the sky above or in the earth below—indeed, nothing in all creation will ever be able to separate us from the love of God that is revealed in Christ Jesus our Lord.

2) Choose FULL ENGAGEMENT

Pentheo: The strongest word for mourning in the Greek language

What do we mourn for?

  • Mourn for what’s been done

What do we mourn for?

  • Mourn for what I’ve done

What do we mourn for?

  • Mourn for what I long for

3) Choose to ALLOW GOD INTO THE PAIN

“Blessed are those who mourn.”

“The body attempts to heal the wound too quickly and as a result, the wound closes up on the outside without getting healed on the inside. The advice is to regulate the speed of the healing for the long-term health of the individual. The sooner treatment is initiated for a wound, the quicker healing will be accomplished and with minimal scarring. From the other view, when we see the worst of wounds, we must remain optimistic and proceed with treatment. All wounds will heal, some prettier than others, but heal they will.”

I have to let CHRIST into the CRISIS.

Matthew 5:4 NIV

“Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted.”
