Sermon Notes

Ephesians 6:13-18 NLT
Therefore, put on every piece of God’s armor so you will be able to
resist the enemy in the time of evil. Then after the battle you will still
be standing firm. Stand your ground, putting on the belt of truth and
the body armor of God’s righteousness. For shoes, put on the peace
that comes from the Good News so that you will be fully prepared. In
addition to all of these, hold up the shield of faith to stop the fiery
arrows of the devil. Put on salvation as your helmet, and take the
sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God. Pray in the Spirit at all
times and on every occasion. Stay alert and be persistent in your
prayers for all believers everywhere.

• Righteousness
• Peace
• Faith

Helmet of Salvation
You are a soldier!
“In heaven we shall appear, not in armour, but in robes of glory. But
here these are to be worn night and day; we must walk, work and
sleep in them, or else we are not true soldiers of Christ.” — William
Gurnall
1 Peter 4:12 NKJV
Beloved, do not think it strange concerning the fiery trial which is to
try you, as though some strange thing happened to you …
2 Thessalonians 1:7-9 NKJV
… when the Lord Jesus is revealed from heaven with His mighty
angels, in flaming fire taking vengeance on those who do not know
God, and on those who do not obey the gospel of our Lord Jesus
Christ. These shall be punished with everlasting destruction from the
presence of the Lord and from the glory of His power …
Matthew 25:41, 46 NKJV
“Then He will also say to those on the left hand, ‘Depart from Me, you
cursed, into the everlasting fire PREPARED FOR THE DEVIL AND
HIS ANGELS …’ And these will go away into everlasting punishment,
but the righteous into eternal life.”
2 Timothy 1:7 NKJV
For God has not given us a SPIRIT OF FEAR …
2 Timothy 1:7 NKJV
For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and
of a SOUND MIND.
A sound mind is a saved mind.
What is salvation?
SŌTĒRÍA: deliverance, salvation, i.e. God’s rescue which delivers
believers out of destruction and into His safety.
How Do We Protect Our Heads?

  1. We must glorify Jesus’ supremacy in creation.
    Colossians 1:15-20 NLT
Christ is the visible image of the invisible God. He existed before
anything was created and is supreme over all creation, for through
him God created everything in the heavenly realms and on earth. He
made the things we can see and the things we can’t see—such as
thrones, kingdoms, rulers, and authorities in the unseen world.
Everything was created through him and for him. He existed
before anything else, and he holds all creation together. Christ is
also the head of the church, which is his body. He is the beginning,
supreme over all who rise from the dead. So he is first in
everything. For God in all his fullness was pleased to live in Christ,
and through him God reconciled everything to himself. He made
peace with everything in heaven and on earth by means of
    Christ’s blood on the cross.
  2. We must solidify Jesus’ position in our lives.
    Acts 4:12 NLT
“There is salvation in no one else! God has given no other name
under heaven by which we must be saved.”
    Luke 6:46 NLT
“So why do you keep calling me ‘Lord, Lord!’ when you don’t do what
    I say?”
  3. We must exemplify Jesus’ power in our lives.
    Romans 1:16-17 NKJV
For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ, for it is THE POWER
OF GOD TO SALVATION for everyone who believes, for the Jew first
and also for the Greek. For in it the righteousness of God is revealed
FROM FAITH TO FAITH; as it is written, “The just shall LIVE BY
    FAITH.”
Understanding the Full Scope of Salvation:
    1 Thessalonians 5:23 NKJV
Now may the God of peace Himself sanctify you completely; and may
your whole SPIRIT, SOUL, and BODY be preserved blameless at the
coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.
Salvation is deliverance — past, present and future! Salvation is
deliverance — spirit, soul and body!
    • Past: the day of deliverance from your old nature (spirit)
    2 Corinthians 6:1-2 NKJV
We then, as workers together with Him also plead with you not to
receive the grace of God in vain. For He says: “In an acceptable time
I have heard you, and in the day of salvation I have helped you.”
Behold, now is the accepted time; behold, now is the day of salvation.
    • Future: the hope of deliverance from your mortal body (body)
    1 Thessalonians 5:8-9 NKJV
But let us who are of the day be sober, putting on the breastplate of
faith and love, and as a helmet the hope of salvation. For God did not
appoint us to wrath, but to obtain salvation through our Lord Jesus
    Christ …
    Philippians 3:20-21 NKJV
For our citizenship is in heaven, from which we also eagerly wait for
the Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ, who will transform our lowly body
that it may be conformed to His glorious body, according to the
working by which He is able even to subdue all things to Himself.
“Aim at heaven and you will get earth ‘thrown in’; aim at earth and
you will get neither.” — C.S. Lewis
    1 Corinthians 15:53-58 NLT
For our dying bodies must be transformed into bodies that will never
die; our mortal bodies must be transformed into immortal bodies.
Then, when our dying bodies have been transformed into bodies that
will never die, this Scripture will be fulfilled: “Death is swallowed up in
victory. O death, where is your victory? O death, where is your sting?”
For sin is the sting that results in death, and the law gives sin its
power. But thank God! He gives us victory over sin and death through
our Lord Jesus Christ. So, my dear brothers and sisters, be strong
and immovable. Always work enthusiastically for the Lord, for you
know that nothing you do for the Lord is ever useless.
    • Present: the way of deliverance from your own will (soul)
    James 1:21-22 NKJV
Therefore lay aside all filthiness and overflow of wickedness, and
receive with meekness the implanted word, which is able to save your
souls. But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving
    yourselves.
Three Ways the Enemy Will Go for Your Head:

  1. ENTANGLED in worldly affairs
    2 Timothy 2:4 NLT
Soldiers don’t get tied up in the affairs of civilian life, for then they
cannot please the officer who enlisted them.
  2. DISTRACTED by good causes
  3. DECEIVED into divided devotion
    2 Corinthians 11:3 NLT
But I fear that somehow your pure and undivided devotion to Christ
will be corrupted, just as Eve was deceived by the cunning ways of
    the serpent.
    Matthew 6:24 NLT
“No one can serve two masters. For you will hate one and love the
other; you will be devoted to one and despise the other. You cannot
serve God and be enslaved to money.”
    • You can’t serve God and MONEY.
    • You can’t serve God and CULTURE.
    • You can’t serve God and COUNTRY.
    Put Your Helmet Back On:

  1. Repent
  2. Refocus
“The Future is, of all things, the thing least like eternity. It is the most
temporal part of time — for the Past is frozen and no longer flows,
and the Present is all lit up with eternal rays.” — C.S. Lewis
  3. Restore
Wherever you are
