Finding Your Calling
“The greatest tragedy in life is not death, but life without reason. It is
dangerous to be alive and not know why you were given life.” –
Myles Munroe
Romans 8:28-30 NKJ
And we know that all things work together for good to those who love
God, to those who are the called according to His purpose. For whom
He foreknew, He also predestined to be conformed to the image of
His Son, that He might be the firstborn among many brethren.
Moreover whom He predestined, these He also called; whom He
called, these He also justified; and whom He justified, these He also
glorified.
Purpose: the reason you were given life
Predestined: God’s predetermined plan for your life
Five Levels of Life:
5. Doing what you and God love!
4. Doing what God loves
3. Doing what you love
2. Doing what you do
- Doing what you hate
Trinity of Fulfillment:
- Doing what brings pleasure
- Doing what you’re gifted in
- Doing what you’re called to do
Know the source of your calling.
Philippians 3:8 NLT
Yes, everything else is worthless when compared with the infinite
value of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord. For his sake I have discarded
everything else, counting it all as garbage, so that I could gain Christ.
Philippians 3:12-14 NKJ
Not that I have already attained, or am already perfected; but I press
on, that I may lay hold of that for which Christ Jesus has also laid
hold of me. Brethren, I do not count myself to have apprehended; but
ONE THING I DO, forgetting those things which are behind and
reaching forward to those things which are ahead, I press toward the
goal for the prize of the UPWARD CALL of God in Christ Jesus.
Three Things Happen as You Get to Know God:
- New identity
Galatians 4:7 NIV
So you are no longer a slave, but God’s child; and since you are his
child, God has made you also an heir.
1 Corinthians 1:26-29 NLT
Remember, dear brothers and sisters, that few of you were wise in
the world’s eyes or powerful or wealthy when God called you.
Instead, God chose things the world considers foolish in order to
shame those who think they are wise. And he chose things that are
powerless to shame those who are powerful. God chose things
despised by the world, things counted as nothing at all, and used
them to bring to nothing what the world considers important. As a
result, no one can ever boast in the presence of God. - New possibilities
Mark 9:23 NKJ
…”If you can believe, all things are possible to him who believes.”
“The more connected you are to God, the more impossible you live
your life!” - New focus
Three Major Shifts Take Place:
- Shift from a temporal mindset to an eternal mindset.
2 Corinthians 4:18 HSCB
So we do not focus on what is seen, but on what is unseen. For what
is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal. - Shift from living for self to living for others.
Philippians 2:2-4 HCSB
…fulfill my joy by thinking the same way, having the same love,
sharing the same feelings, FOCUSING ON ONE GOAL. Do nothing
out of rivalry or conceit, but in humility consider others as more
important than yourselves. - Shift from building your kingdom to building God’s Kingdom.
1 Corinthians 3:12-15 NLT
Anyone who builds on that foundation may use a variety of
materials—gold, silver, jewels, wood, hay, or straw. But on the
judgment day, fire will reveal what kind of work each builder has
done. The fire will show if a person’s work has any value. If the work
survives, that builder will receive a reward. But if the work is burned
up, the builder will suffer great loss. The builder will be saved, but like
someone barely escaping through a wall of flames.
