Matthew 7:24-27 (NKJV)24 “Therefore whoever hears these sayings of Mine, and does them, I will liken him to a wise man who built his house on the rock: 25 and the rain descended, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house; and it DID NOT fall, for it was founded on the rock.26 “But everyone who...

Matthew 7:24-27 (NKJV)
24 “Therefore whoever hears these sayings of Mine, and does them, I will liken him to a wise man who built his house on the rock: 25 and the rain descended, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house; and it DID NOT fall, for it was founded on the rock.26 “But everyone who hears these sayings of Mine, and does not do them, will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand27 and the rain descended, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house; and it fell. And GREAT was its fall.”

There is a difference between “Hearing God’s Word” and “Being Obedient to God’s Word.”

Isaiah 26:4 (NIV)
Trust in the Lord forever, for the Lord, the Lord himself, is the Rock eternal.

Matthew 7:26 (NKJV)
26 “But everyone who hears these sayings of Mine, and does not do them, will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand…

How do we Build our lives on the Rock?

  1. Believe the Word of God is the only Truth.

1 Thessalonians 2:13 (NIV)
13 And we also thank God continually because, when you received the word of God, which you heard from us, you accepted it not as a human word, but as it actually is, the word of God, which is indeed at work in you who believe.

How do we Build our lives on the Rock?

  1. Believe the Word of God is the only Truth.
  2. Stand on the Word of God even when it’s not popular.

2 Timothy 3:13-17 (NLT)
13 But evil people and impostors will flourish. They will deceive others and will themselves be deceived.14 But you must remain faithful to the things you have been taught. You know they are true, for you know you can trust those who taught you. 15 You have been taught the holy Scriptures from childhood, and they have given you the wisdom to receive the salvation that comes by trusting in Christ Jesus. 16 All Scripture is inspired by God and is useful to teach us what is true and to make us realize what is wrong in our lives. It corrects us when we are wrong and teaches us to do what is right. 17 God uses it to prepare and equip his people to do every good work.

2 Timothy 3:15–17 (NIV)
You have been taught the holy Scriptures from childhood, and they have given you the wisdom to receive the salvation that comes by trusting in Christ Jesus.  That it corrects us when we are wrong and teaches us to do what is right. 17 God uses it to prepare and equip his people to do every good work.

Training up a child in the way they should go is:

  • Reading the Bible and times of prayer with your children.
  • Having Conversations with them regarding Biblical Truth vs Societal Truth
  • Modeling Biblical Christianity in our own lives, in our words, and our actions.

How do we Build our lives on the Rock?

  1. Believe the Word of God is the only Truth.
  2. Stand on the Word even when it’s not popular.
  3. Trust in the Word even if things get difficult.

The Hebrew word mezuzah means “doorpost.”

Deuteronomy 6:4-9 (NIV)
Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one.[a] Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength. These commandments that I give you today are to be on your hearts. Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up. Tie them as symbols on your hands and bind them on your foreheads. Write them on the doorframes of your houses and on your gates.

Protection - Psalm 18:2 (NIV)
The Lord is my rock, my fortress and my deliverer; my God is my rock, in whom I take refuge, my shield[a] and the horn[b] of my salvation, my stronghold.

Provision - Psalm 37:23-25 (NIV)
The Lord makes firm the steps of the one who delights in him24 though he may stumble, he will not fall, for the Lord upholds him with his hand.25 I was young and now I am old, yet I have never seen the righteous forsaken or their children begging bread.

Peace - Psalm 62:2 (NIV)
Truly he is my rock and my salvation; he is my fortress; I will never be shaken.
