Hebrews 12:1-3 NIV
Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us THROW OFF everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us RUN with perseverance the race marked out for us, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith. FOR THE JOY set before him he endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. Consider him who endured such opposition from sinners, so that you will not grow weary and lose heart.
John 10:7-10 NKJV
'Then Jesus said to them again, “Most assuredly, I say to you, I am the door of the sheep. All who ever came before Me are thieves and robbers, but the sheep did not hear them. I am the door. If anyone enters by Me, he will be saved, and will go in and out and find pasture. 'The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more ABUNDANTLY.
Abundantly:Greek- perissōn -περισσὸν -implies not just abundance, but overflow or excess. It suggests a life that is enhanced beyond ordinary existence.
“For the JOY set before me, I will throw off PASSIVITY & I will pursue PURPOSEFULNESS.”
Passivity=ACCEPTING what happens without an active response or resistance.
Lecrae Moore- Breathin’ To Death
Help me Lord before there's no time left
I ain't living I'm just breathing to death
Your ways are perfect and they lead me to rest
Mine are evil and they lead me to death
Matthew 5:13-16 NASB95
' “You are the salt of the earth; but if the salt has become tasteless, how can it be made salty again? It is no longer good for anything, except to be thrown out and trampled under foot by men. “You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden; nor does anyone light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on the lampstand, and it gives light to all who are in the house. Let your light shine before men in such a way that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father who is in heaven.'
Ephesians 5:15-16 NIV
Be very careful, then, how you live—not as unwise but as wise, making the most of every opportunity, because the days are evil.
We Must Make the Most of Every Opportunity:
1. With Our TIME
James 4:14 TPT 'But you don’t have a clue what tomorrow may bring. For your fleeting life is but a warm breath of air that is visible in the cold only for a moment and then vanishes! '
How you spend your time is how you honor the God who gave it.
Can you be proud of how you’re sowing your time in correspondence with God’s assignment on your life?
How to Live Purposefully with your TIME:
-Start Your Day with God: With Prayer & Scripture
-Identify and Eliminate Distractions: Audit your time
-Invest in What Has Eternal Value: Serving others, Sharing the Gospel
Psalms 90:12 NIV 'Teach us to number our days, that we may gain a heart of wisdom.
We Must Make the Most of Every Opportunity:
1. In Our WORK
"Work: any effort that produces value, whether in the home, workplace, or community."
“Your work isn’t just what you do—it’s how you show who God is.”
Matthew 5:16 NKJ
'Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven.'
Colossians 3:23-24 NKJ
And whatever you do, do it heartily, as to the Lord and not to men, knowing that from the Lord you will receive the reward of the inheritance; for you serve the Lord Christ. '
How do we move from Passivity to Purposefulness in our Work?
- Work as if you’re serving Christ directly
- Find ways to add value to everyone you encounter
- Use your job as an opportunity for witnessing & ministry.
- Always seek to grow, improve and develop the skills God has given you.
We Must Make the Most of Every Opportunity:
2. In Our RELATIONSHIPS
Galatians 6:9-10 NIV
'Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up. Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all people, especially to those who belong to the family of believers. '
“Wherever you are, be all there.”– Jim Elliot (Missionary/Martyr)
