Acts 29

by Curvine Brewington
The book of Acts teaches us the origins of the early Church—but, like the disciples, it’s also a call for us to GO and tell the world about Jesus. He sacrificed His life, saving us from sin, and commissioned us as representatives of His incredible faithfulness. He did His part, and now it’s our turn. Tune in to the last message in our Sent series to find out how you can live sent in your everyday life!
Sermon Notes

Acts 29:1 CIV
Paul gone…

Acts 29:2 CIV
Now it’s YOUR TURN.

How to Live Out Acts 29:
1. Live Provocatively

1 Peter 3:15 NIV
But in your hearts revere Christ as Lord. Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect…

Acts 26:12-18 NIV
“On one of these journeys I was going to Damascus with the authority and commission of the chief priests. About noon, King Agrippa, as I was on the road, I saw a light from heaven, brighter than the sun, blazing around me and my companions. We all fell to the ground, and I heard a voice saying to me in Aramaic, ‘Saul, Saul, why do you persecute me? It is hard for you to kick against the goads.’ Then I asked, ‘Who are you, Lord?’ ‘I am Jesus, whom you are persecuting,’ the Lord replied. ‘Now get up and stand on your feet. I have appeared to you to appoint you as a servant and as a witness of what you have seen and will see of me. I will rescue you from your own people and from the Gentiles. I am sending you to them to open their eyes and turn them from darkness to light, and from the power of Satan to God, so that they may receive forgiveness of sins and a place among those who are sanctified by faith in me.’”

How to Live Out Acts 29:
1. Live Provocatively
2. Seize the Opportunities

Acts 27:20 NLT
The terrible storm raged for many days, blotting out the sun and the stars, until at last all hope was gone.

Acts 27:26 NLT
“But we will be shipwrecked on an island.”

Acts 28:7-10 NLT
Near the shore where we landed was an estate belonging to Publius, the chief official of the island. He welcomed us and treated us kindly for three days. As it happened, Publius’s father was ill with fever and dysentery. Paul went in and prayed for him, and laying his hands on him, he healed him. Then all the other sick people on the island came and were healed. As a result we were showered with honors, and when the time came to sail, people supplied us with everything we would need for the trip.

“We pray for miracles and then spend our whole lives avoiding the context in which they can happen.” — Erwin McManus (Mosaic)

GOD DOES NOT CHANGE YOUR DESIGN. HE CHANGES YOUR DIRECTION AND YOUR DESIRE.

Psalm 139:14-16 NIV
I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well. My frame was not hidden from you when I was made in the secret place, when I was woven together in the depths of the earth. Your eyes saw my unformed body; all the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be.

There is nothing sweeter than discovering that God-space where your PASSION runs PARALLEL to your PURPOSE.

How to Live Out Acts 29:
1. Live Provocatively
2. Seize the Opportunities
3. Live Sent

Acts 28:30-31 NIV
Paul lived there two whole years at his own expense (under house arrest), and welcomed all who came to him, proclaiming the kingdom of God and teaching about the Lord Jesus Christ with all boldness and without hindrance.

3 Keys to Living Sent:
a. Live Sent in the Way You Serve

Matthew 20:26-28 NLT
Whoever wants to be a leader among you must be your servant, and whoever wants to be first among you must become your slave. For even the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve others and to give his life as a ransom for many.”

If SERVING is beneath you, then LEADERSHIP is beyond you.

1 Peter 4:10 NIV
Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God’s grace in its various forms.

WE LOOK MOST LIKE JESUS WHENEVER WE’RE SERVING OTHERS.

3 Keys to Living Sent:
a. Live Sent in the Way You Serve
b. Live Sent in the Way You Sow

Matthew 6:21 NLT
Wherever your treasure is THERE the desires of your heart will also be.

Luke 6:38 NIV
“Give, and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over, will be poured into your lap. For with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.”

If God can get it THROUGH you, then God will get it TO you.

We find a need and fill it. See a hurt and heal it.

3 Keys to Living Sent:
a. Live Sent in the Way You Serve
b. Live Sent in the Way You Sow
c. Live Sent in the Way You See

2 Corinthians 5:7 NIV
For we live by faith, not by sight.

Hebrews 12:1-3 NIV
Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith. For the joy set before him he endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. Consider him who endured such opposition from sinners, so that you will not grow weary and lose heart.

Romans 10:13-15 ESV
For “everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.” How then will they call on him in whom they have not believed? And how are they to believe in him of whom they have never heard? And how are they to hear without someone preaching? And how are they to preach unless they are sent? As it is written, “How beautiful are the feet of those who preach the good news!”
