Sermon Notes

2 Corinthians 5:15-17 NLT
He died for everyone so that those who receive his new life will no longer live
for themselves. Instead, they will live for Christ, who died and was raised for
them. So we have stopped evaluating others from a human point of view. At
one time we thought of Christ merely from a human point of view. How
differently we know him now! This means that anyone who belongs to Christ
has become a new person. The old life is gone; a new life has begun!
There is new hope because in Him we discover NEW VALUE.
Galatians 3:28 NLT
There is no longer Jew or Gentile, slave or free, male and female. For you
are all one in Christ Jesus.
There is new hope because in Him we discover NEW PURPOSE.
John 4:39 NLT
Many Samaritans from the village believed in Jesus because the woman had
said, “He told me everything I ever did!”
Luke 8:1-3 NLT
Soon afterward Jesus began a tour of the nearby towns and villages,
preaching and announcing the Good News about the Kingdom of God. He
took his twelve disciples with him, along with some women who had been
cured of evil spirits and diseases. Among them were Mary Magdalene, from
whom he had cast out seven demons; Joanna, the wife of Chuza, Herod’s
business manager; Susanna; and many others who were contributing from
their own resources to support Jesus and his disciples.
There is new hope because in Him we discover – NEW COVERING.
Ephesians 5:21-28 NLT
And further, submit to one another out of reverence for Christ. For wives, this
means submit to your husbands as to the Lord. For a husband is the head of
his wife as Christ is the head of the church. He is the Savior of his body, the
church. As the church submits to Christ, so you wives should submit to your
husbands in everything. For husbands, this means love your wives, just as
Christ loved the church. He gave up his life for her to make her holy and
clean, washed by the cleansing of God’s word. He did this to present her to
himself as a glorious church without a spot or wrinkle or any other blemish.
Instead, she will be holy and without fault. In the same way, husbands ought
to love their wives as they love their own bodies. For a man who loves his
wife actually shows love for himself.
1 Samuel 1:8-18 MSG
Her husband Elkanah said, “Oh, Hannah, why are you crying? Why aren’t
you eating? And why are you so upset? Am I not of more worth to you than
ten sons?” So Hannah ate. Then she pulled herself together, slipped away
quietly, and entered the sanctuary. The priest Eli was on duty at the entrance
to GOD’s Temple in the customary seat. Crushed in soul, Hannah prayed to
GOD and cried and cried—inconsolably. Then she made a vow: Oh, GOD-ofthe-Angel-Armies, if you’ll take a good, hard look at my pain, if you’ll quit
neglecting me and go into action for me by giving me a son, I’ll give him
completely, unreservedly to you. I’ll set him apart for a life of holy discipline.
It so happened that as she continued in prayer before GOD, Eli was watching
her closely. Hannah was praying in her heart, silently. Her lips moved, but no
sound was heard. Eli jumped to the conclusion that she was drunk. He
approached her and said, “You’re drunk! How long do you plan to keep this
up? Sober up, woman!” Hannah said, “Oh no, sir—please! I’m a woman hard
used. I haven’t been drinking. Not a drop of wine or beer. The only thing I’ve
been pouring out is my heart, pouring it out to GOD. Don’t for a minute think
I’m a bad woman. It’s because I’m so desperately unhappy and in such pain
that I’ve stayed here so long.” Eli answered her, “Go in peace. And may the
God of Israel give you what you have asked of him.” “Think well of me—and
pray for me!” she said, and went her way. Then she ate heartily, her face
radiant.
