Day 14 – Serve
WEEK 2:
On days 8-14 of our time of prayer and fasting, we are focusing on Revelation 21:22 – Revelation 22:5, which centers around the restoration of the Garden of Eden.
Read the passage and return to it as needed for your daily quiet time.
This Week's Passage — Revelation 21:22 – 22:5
22 I did not see a temple in the city, because the Lord God Almighty and the Lamb are its temple. 23 The city does not need the sun or the moon to shine on it, for the glory of God gives it light, and the Lamb is its lamp. 24 The nations will walk by its light, and the kings of the earth will bring their splendor into it. 25 On no day will its gates ever be shut, for there will be no night there. 26 The glory and honor of the nations will be brought into it. 27 Nothing impure will ever enter it, nor will anyone who does what is shameful or deceitful, but only those whose names are written in the Lamb’s book of life.
Ch. 22
Then the angel showed me the river of the water of life, as clear as crystal, flowing from the throne of God and of the Lamb 2 down the middle of the great street of the city. On each side of the river stood the tree of life, bearing twelve crops of fruit, yielding its fruit every month. And the leaves of the tree are for the healing of the nations. 3 No longer will there be any curse. The throne of God and of the Lamb will be in the city, and his servants will serve him. 4 They will see his face, and his name will be on their foreheads. 5 There will be no more night. They will not need the light of a lamp or the light of the sun, for the Lord God will give them light. And they will reign for ever and ever.
Serve
Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God’s grace in its various forms. — 1 Peter 4:10 (NIV)
Jesus alone is the most extravagant gift we’ve ever received. He came as the servant of all, willingly sacrificing His own life so that we could be saved and set free! Matthew 20:28 says that He “did not come to be served but to serve, and to give His life as a ransom for many.”
The greatest commandment we’ve been given is to love the Lord our God with all our heart, with all our soul, and with all our mind (Matthew 22:36-37). One way we can express our love for Him is through loving our neighbors. When we selflessly model Jesus’ behavior in this way, we reflect the love He first showed us. Serving others pleases Him and is an act of worship in response to His faithfulness toward us.
Today, let’s share what He has given us, freely offering our time, attention, gifts, or other resources to care for His people, share His heart, and build His kingdom. Ask the Holy Spirit to open your eyes to ways that you can serve others as you go about your day. We encourage you to choose a different act of service than you did on day seven.
