Pause

You may feel God’s strength supporting you as you fast from certain foods, or you may feel more focused as you’ve resisted connecting to media sources, deleted social media from your phone, or removed anything else that usually takes up your time. How has your fast been going?

Maybe you haven’t begun fasting yet, or maybe your intentionality has decreased. There’s good news! You can start, or restart, today! Pause and pray. Ask God what you could lay down for the remaining days of our fast. The Holy Spirit will empower you to do it!

Matthew 6:16-18 NIV

“When you fast, do not look somber as the hypocrites do, for they disfigure their faces to show others they are fasting. Truly I tell you, they have received their reward in full. But when you fast, put oil on your head and wash your face, so that it will not be obvious to others that you are fasting, but only to your Father, who is unseen; and your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you.”

Walk with God

The Sermon on the Mount continues as Jesus teaches that we should avoid doing spiritual activities with the goal of getting attention. What stood out to you from today’s verses?

As followers of Christ, we are called to live for “an audience of One”, allowing His Spirit to lead us daily. Ask God to investigate your heart and purify your desires.
