Baptism in the Holy Spirit – March 6, 2022
John 14:12-17 ESV
“Truly, truly, I say to you, WHOEVER believes in me will also do the works that I do; and greater works than these will he do, because I am going to the Father. Whatever you ask in my name, this I will do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. If you ask me anything in my name, I will do it. “If you love me, you will keep my commandments. And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another HELPER, to be with you forever, even the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees him nor knows him. You know him, for he dwells WITH you and will be IN you.
Acts 1:4-8 NLT
“Do not leave Jerusalem until the Father sends you the gift He promised, as I told you before. John baptized with water, but in just a few days you will be BAPTIZED WITH THE HOLY SPIRIT.” So when the apostles were with Jesus, they kept asking him, “Lord, has the time come for you to free Israel and restore our kingdom?” He replied, “The Father alone has the authority to set those dates and times, and they are not for you to know. But you will receive POWER when the Holy Spirit comes UPON you. He told the people to believe in the one coming after him, that is, in Jesus.” On hearing this, they were baptized [in water] in the name of the Lord Jesus. When Paul placed his hands on them, the Holy Spirit came ON them, and they spoke in tongues and prophesied.

Three Types of Christians:
Believers in Jesus (salvation)
Believers baptized in Water (fruit of the spirit)
Believers baptized in the Holy Spirit (gifts of the spirit)
We can’t fulfill the MISSION of God for us without the POWER of God upon us.

The difference between scared, hiding disciples, and bold, evangelistic disciples, is the Baptism in the Holy Spirit!

2) New Prayer Language
1 Corinthians 14:14 NIV
If I pray in a tongue, my spirit prays, but my mind is unfruitful.
Praying in Tongues = your born-again spirit praying to God
1 Corinthians 14:5
I would like every one of you to speak in tongues…

I thank God that I speak in tongues more than all of you. But in the church I would rather speak five intelligible words to instruct others than ten thousand words in a tongue.

3) New Power to Operate in the Supernatural
1 Corinthians 12:7-11 NIV
Now to each one the manifestation of the Spirit is given for the common good. To one there is given through the Spirit a message of wisdom, to another a message of knowledge by means of the same Spirit, to another faith by the same Spirit, to another gifts of healing by that one Spirit, to another miraculous powers, to another prophecy, to another distinguishing between spirits, to another speaking in different kinds of tongues, and to still another the interpretation of tongues. All these are the work of one and the same Spirit, and He distributes them to each one, just as He determines.
