Your Kingdom Come

by Johnson Bowie
All of us were born with a sinful, selfish nature. Apart from God, we are concerned and consumed by our personal plans and desires. There is a gap between what He wants to happen in the earth and what is currently taking place. But we are invited to help close the gap, to exalt a culture that’s greater than our own: God’s Kingdom culture. Tune in as we learn what it looks like to allow His ways, His will, and His power to permeate our lives!
Sermon Notes

Matthew 6:9-13 NKJV
“In this manner, therefore, pray: Our Father in heaven, hallowed be Your name. Your kingdom come. Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And do not lead us into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one. For Yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen.”

Matthew 6:10 NKJV
“Your kingdom come. Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven.”

Malkhut Shamayim:

Malkhut: the actions of a king; his reign and authority

Shamayim: Heaven; always refers to God, not to a place

Kingdom of Heaven: Wherever God is ruling and reigning

I know TWO THINGS to be completely true:

  1. God’s Kingdom is better than mine.

Isaiah 55:8-9 NIV
“For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways,” declares the Lord. “As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts.”

I know TWO THINGS to be completely true:

  • I am tempted every day to exalt my kingdom over His.

3 Areas of the Kingdom to Establish in Prayer:

  1. To Be a Kingdom Person

John 3:30 NKJV
“He must increase, but I must decrease.”

Mark 14:36 NLT
“Abba, Father,” he cried out, “everything is possible for you. Please take this cup of suffering away from me. Yet I want your will to be done, not mine.”

Galatians 5:19-23 NLT
When you follow the desires of your sinful nature, the results are very clear: sexual immorality, impurity, lustful pleasures, idolatry, sorcery, hostility, quarreling, jealousy, outbursts of anger, selfish ambition, dissension, division, envy, drunkenness, wild parties, and other sins like these. Let me tell you again, as I have before, that anyone living that sort of life will not inherit the Kingdom of God. But the Holy Spirit produces this kind of fruit in our lives: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control.

3 Areas of the Kingdom to Establish in Prayer:

  •  To Walk in Kingdom Purpose

Ephesians 1:11 MSG
It’s in Christ that we find out who we are and what we are living for. Long before we first heard of Christ and got our hopes up, he had his eye on us, had designs on us for glorious living, part of the overall purpose he is working out in everything and everyone.

“God, I want YOUR purpose for my life to come to pass, more than I want MY purpose for my life to come to pass.”

“The devil has no problem promoting you out of your purpose!” — Gerald Brooks

3 Areas of the Kingdom to Establish in Prayer:

  • To Operate in Kingdom Power

Luke 10:9 NIV
“Heal the sick who are there and tell them, ‘The kingdom of God has come near to you.’”

How to Pray to Establish Kingdom Power:

- Pray for Boldness in my Faith

- Pray for Power through my Life

- Pray for Revival in the Church

- Pray for Awakening in the Nation
