Where Else Would We Go

by Curvine Brewington
Have you ever wondered what it means to truly follow Jesus—not just believe in Him? This week we sit in a moment when the crowds walked away from Jesus, and even His closest friends questioned if they could stay. This isn't about perfect faith—it's about an imperfectly surrendered heart and a Savior worth staying for. Tune in to discover the difference between a believer and a true disciple. Sermon Notes

John 6:51–54; 58-59 NLT
51 "I am the living bread that came down from heaven. Anyone who eats this bread will live forever; and this bread, which I will offer so the world may live, is my flesh." 52 Then the people began arguing with each other about what he meant. "How can this man give us his flesh to eat?" they asked. 53 So Jesus said again, "I tell you the truth, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink his blood, you cannot have eternal life within you. 54 But anyone who eats my flesh and drinks my blood has eternal life, and I will raise that person at the last day. 58 I am the true bread that came down from heaven. Anyone who eats this bread will not die as your ancestors did (even though they ate the manna) but will live forever."59 He said these things while he was teaching in the synagogue in Capernaum.

HOW DO WE MOVE FROM BELIEVERS TO DISCIPLES?

  1. WE LOOK UPWARD -  FULL DEPENDENCE ON JESUS

“Flesh” = SARX

John 1:14 NIV
the Word became flesh and dwelt among us.

2 Corinthians 5:21 NIV
“God made him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.”

John 6:57 NLT
"I live because of the living Father who sent me; in the same way, anyone who feeds on me will live because of me."

Disciples don’t just make a moment. They commit to a lifestyle.

Romans 8:17 NIV
“We share in his sufferings in order that we may also share in his glory.”

HOW DO WE MOVE FROM BELIEVERS TO DISCIPLES?

1. WE LOOK UPWARD - FULL DEPENDENCE ON JESUS

2. WE YIELD INWARD - TOTAL SURRENDER OF THE HEART

John 6:64–66 NLT
64 “But some of you do not believe me.” (For Jesus knew from the beginning which ones didn’t believe, and he knew who would betray him.) 65 Then he said, “That is why I said that people can’t come to me unless the Father gives them to me.”
66 At this point many of his disciples turned away and deserted him.

James 2:19 NLT
“You say you have faith, for you believe that there is one God. Good for you! Even the demons believe this, and they tremble in terror.”

Everybody loves Jesus, The Savior. But not everybody wants Jesus as Lord.

It’s possible to be in close proximity to Jesus and still have a heart that is far from Him.

“Are you also going to leave?”

John 6:68–69 NLT
“Lord, to whom would we go? You have the words that give eternal life. We believe, and we know you are the Holy One of God.”

HOW DO WE MOVE FROM BELIEVERS TO DISCIPLES?

1. WE LOOK UPWARD - FULL DEPENDENCE ON JESUS

2. WE YIELD INWARD - TOTAL SURRENDER OF THE HEART

3. WE REACH OUTWARD – LIVING ON MISSION FOR OTHERS

DISCIPLESHIP AT VICTORY:

We believe discipleship is a lifelong, Holy Spirit-led journey of fully maturing in Christ through your head, heart, and hands.

HEAD —  UPWARD. Your relationship with God.

HEART —  INWARD. Your character and surrender.

HANDS —  OUTWARD. How you live on mission.

UPWARD — Saturday AM prayer. Fasting. Commit to Sabbath.

INWARD — Choose forgiveness. Examine your soul-health. Seek accountability. Submit to the process.

OUTWARD — Missions trip. Share your story. Serve on a ministry team. Join a small group.
