What’s My Calling?

by Johnson Bowie
We all have the same purpose: glorify God and enjoy Him forever. To walk that out, each of us has been given a uniquely specific blend of gifts, talents and abilities to use wherever God leads us. While our purpose remains the same, our calling can change throughout the various seasons of our lives. God wants us to trust Him, allowing Him to lead us on the journey He mapped long ago. But how do we begin to run in God’s perfect plan for our lives? Learn more in part two of True North!
Sermon Notes

“The greatest tragedy in life is not death, but life without reason. It is dangerous to be alive and not know why you were given life.” — Myles Munroe

What is my Purpose?

My purpose is to glorify God and to enjoy Him forever.

What is my Calling?

My calling is using my gifts, talents and abilities in the places God leads me—from work to church to relationships—to glorify God and to enjoy Him forever.

Galatians 6:4-5 MSG

Make a careful exploration of who you are and the work you have been given, and then sink yourself into that. Don’t be impressed with yourself. Don’t compare yourself with others. Each of you must take responsibility for doing the creative best you can with your own life.

What Is the GPS of My Calling?

  1. Gifts

1 Peter 4:10-11 NKJV

As each one has received a GIFT, minister it to one another, as good stewards of the manifold GRACE of God. If anyone speaks, let him speak as the oracles of God. If anyone ministers, let him do it as with the ability which God supplies, that in all things God may be glorified through Jesus Christ, to whom belong the glory and the dominion forever and ever. Amen.

Romans 12:6-8 NIV

We have different gifts, according to the grace given to each of us. If your gift is prophesying, then prophesy in accordance with your faith; if it is serving, then serve; if it is teaching, then teach; if it is to encourage, then give encouragement; if it is giving, then give generously; if it is to lead, do it diligently; if it is to show mercy, do it cheerfully.

“The place God calls you to is the place where your deep gladness and the world’s deep hunger meet.” – Frederick Buechner

John 4:32-34 NIV

But he said to them, “I have food to eat that you do not know about.” So the disciples said to one another, “Has anyone brought him something to eat?”Jesus said to them, “My food is to do the will of him who sent me and to accomplish his work.

If you aren’t DOING, then you’re definitely DRIFTING.

  3. Story

Romans 8:28 NLT

And we know that God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to his purpose for them.

God can and will use all the beautiful and broken pieces of your STORY for His GLORY.
