Luke 5:1-4, 11 NIV One day as Jesus was standing by the Lake of Gennesaret, the people were crowding around him and listening to the word of God. He saw at the water’s edge two boats, left there by the fishermen, who were washing their nets. He got into one of the boats, the one belonging to Simon, and asked him to put out a little from shore. Then he sat down and taught the people from the boat. When he had finished speaking, he said to Simon, “Put out into deep water, and let down the nets for a catch.” … So they pulled their boats up on shore, left everything and followed him.

“In the absence of purpose, time has no meaning, energy has no reason, and life has no precision.” — Dr. Myles Munroe

  1. He calls us.

Matthew 4:18-22 NKJV And Jesus, walking by the Sea of Galilee, saw two brothers, Simon called Peter, and Andrew his brother, casting a net into the sea; for they were fishermen. Then He said to them, “Follow Me, and I will make you fishers of men.” They immediately left their nets and followed Him. Going on from there, He saw two other brothers, James the son of Zebedee, and John his brother, in the boat with Zebedee their father, mending their nets. He called them, and immediately they left the boat and their father, and followed Him.

Follow — to cleave steadfastly to one, conform wholly to his example, in living and if need be in dying also

Matthew 7:13-14 NKJV “Enter by the narrow gate; for wide is the gate and broad is the way that leads to destruction, and there are many who go in by it. Because narrow is the gate and difficult is the way which leads to life, and there are few who find it.”

“Christianity has not been tried and found wanting. It has been found difficult and not tried.” — G.K. Chesterton

John 14:6 AMP Jesus said to him, “I am the [only] Way [to God] and the [real] Truth and the [real] Life; no one comes to the Father but through Me.”

  1. He empowers us.

Acts 20:32 MSG “Now I’m turning you over to God, our marvelous God whose gracious Word can make you into what he wants you to be and give you everything you could possibly need in this community of holy friends.”

Matthew 4:19 TPT Jesus called out to them and said, “Come and follow me, and I will transform you into men who catch people for God.”

2 Corinthians 3:18 NKJV But we all, with unveiled face, beholding as in a mirror the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from glory to glory, just as by the Spirit of the Lord.

“Calling is not only a matter of being and doing what we are but also of becoming what we are not yet but are called by God to be.” — Os Guiness

  1. He sends us.

Matthew 4:19 TPT Jesus called out to them and said, “Come and follow me, and I will transform you into men who catch people for God.”

Matthew 28:18-20 NKJV And Jesus came and spoke to them, saying, “All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” Amen.
