The Mission of God

by Johnson Bowie
We were made to live fully alive! We flourish when we are fulfilling the mission God has given us. While the enemy comes to steal, kill and destroy, Christ came so that we could have abundant life. He is glorified when we step out in faith and do what we are called to do! The world needs us to walk in fellowship with the Father and represent Jesus in our own unique way. Today is the day to get back on mission!
Sermon Notes

Genesis 1:27 NLT

So God created human beings in His own image. In the image of God He created them; male and female He created them.

Genesis 1:28 NLT
Then God blessed them and said, “Be fruitful and multiply. Fill the earth and govern it. Reign over the fish in the sea, the birds in the sky, and all the animals that scurry along the ground.”

Revelation 21:1-5, 22-24, 22:3-5 NIV
Then I saw “a new heaven and a new earth,” for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away, and there was no longer any sea. I saw the Holy City, the new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride beautifully dressed for her husband. And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, “Look! God’s dwelling place is now among the people, and he will dwell with them. They will be his people, and God himself will be with them and be their God. ‘He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death’ or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away.” He who was seated on the throne said, “I am making everything new!”… I did not see a temple in the city, because the Lord God Almighty and the Lamb are its temple. The city does not need the sun or the moon to shine on it, for the glory of God gives it light, and the Lamb is its lamp. The nations will walk by its light, and the kings of the earth will bring their splendor into it… The throne of God and of the Lamb will be in the city, and his servants will serve him. They will see his face, and his name will be on their foreheads. There will be no more night. They will not need the light of a lamp or the light of the sun, for the Lord God will give them light. And they will reign for ever and ever.

Genesis 9:1 NKJV
So God blessed Noah and his sons, and said to them: “Be fruitful and multiply, and fill the earth.”

Genesis 22:17-18 NLT
I will certainly bless you. I will multiply your descendants beyond number, like the stars in the sky and the sand on the seashore. Your descendants will conquer the cities of their enemies. And through your descendants all the nations of the earth will be blessed…

Matthew 28:18-20 NIV
Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you.

What happens when Christians get OFF mission?

  1. We compromise with sin
  2. Our lives become about sin management
  3. We hate those we are called to love
  4. Friends go to Hell

What happens when Christians get ON mission?

  1. Friends get eternal life
  2. Sin fades
  3. God is glorified
  4. We flourish
