The Body Armor of God’s Righteousness
EPHESIANS 6:10-18 NLT
A final word: Be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. Put on all
of God’s armor so that you will be able to stand firm against all
strategies of the devil. For we are not fighting against flesh-and-blood
enemies, but against evil rulers and authorities of the unseen world,
against mighty powers in this dark world, and against evil spirits in the
heavenly places. Therefore, put on every piece of God’s armor so
you will be able to resist the enemy in the time of evil. Then after the
battle you will still be standing firm. Stand your ground, putting on the
belt of truth and the body armor of God’s righteousness. For shoes,
put on the peace that comes from the Good News so that you will be
fully prepared. In addition to all of these, hold up the shield of faith to
stop the fiery arrows of the devil. Put on salvation as your helmet, and
take the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God. Pray in the
Spirit at all times and on every occasion. Stay alert and be persistent
in your prayers for all believers everywhere.
1 JOHN 3:8 NKJV
He who sins is of the devil, for the devil has sinned from the
beginning. For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that He
might destroy the works of the devil.
2 TIMOTHY 2:1-4 NKJV
You therefore, my son, be strong in the grace that is in Christ Jesus.
And the things that you have heard from me among many witnesses,
commit these to faithful men who will be able to teach others also.
You therefore must endure hardship as a good soldier of Jesus
Christ. No one engaged in warfare entangles himself with the affairs
of this life, that he may please him who enlisted him as a soldier.
The Breastplate of Righteousness
Righteousness: right standing with God; a state of being where you
understand how God sees you as if you’ve never sinned
2 CORINTHIANS 5:15-21 NKJV
… and He died for all, that those who live should live no longer for
themselves, but for Him who died for them and rose again. Therefore,
from now on, we regard no one according to the flesh. Even though
we have known Christ according to the flesh, yet now we know Him
thus no longer. Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation;
old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.
Now all things are of God, who has reconciled us to Himself through
Jesus Christ, and has given us the ministry of reconciliation, that is,
that God was in Christ reconciling the world to Himself, not imputing
their trespasses to them, and has committed to us the word of
reconciliation. Now then, we are ambassadors for Christ, as though
God were pleading through us: we implore you on Christ’s behalf, be
reconciled to God. For He made Him who knew no sin to be sin for
us, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him.
ROMANS 5:17-21 NKJV
(For if by the one man’s offense death reigned through the one, much
more those who receive abundance of grace and of the gift of
righteousness will reign in life through the One, Jesus Christ.)
Therefore, as through one man’s offense judgment came to all men,
resulting in condemnation, even so through one Man’s righteous act
the free gift came to all men, resulting in justification of life. For as by
one man’s disobedience many were made sinners, so also by one
Man’s obedience many will be made righteous. Moreover the law
entered that the offense might abound. But where sin abounded,
grace abounded much more, so that as sin reigned in death, even so
grace might reign through righteousness to eternal life through Jesus
Christ our Lord.
Righteousness is a gift.
1 JOHN 1:5-9 NKJV
This is the message which we have heard from Him and declare to
you, that God is light and in Him is no darkness at all. If we say that
we have fellowship with Him, and walk in darkness, we lie and do not
practice the truth. But if we walk in the light as He is in the light, we
have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus Christ His
Son cleanses us from all sin. If we say that we have no sin, we
deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins,
He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all
unrighteousness.
JAMES 5:16-18 NKJV
Confess your trespasses to one another, and pray for one another,
that you may be healed. The effective, fervent prayer of a righteous
man avails much. Elijah was a man with a nature like ours, and he
prayed earnestly that it would not rain; and it did not rain on the land
for three years and six months. And he prayed again, and the heaven
gave rain, and the earth produced its fruit.
