Prince of Peace

Sermon Notes

Isaiah 9:6 NIV
For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will
be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor,
Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.
Luke 2:1-16 NIV
In those days Caesar Augustus issued a decree that a census should
be taken of the entire Roman world… And everyone went to their own
town to register. So Joseph also went up from the town of Nazareth in
Galilee to Judea, to Bethlehem the town of David, because he
belonged to the house and line of David. He went there to register
with Mary, who was pledged to be married to him and was expecting
a child. While they were there, the time came for the baby to be
born, and she gave birth to her firstborn, a son. She wrapped him in
cloths and placed him in a manger, because there was no guest room
available for them. And there were shepherds living out in the fields
nearby, keeping watch over their flocks at night. An angel of the Lord
appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and
they were terrified. But the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid. I
bring you good news that will cause great joy for all the
people. Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he
is the Messiah, the Lord. This will be a sign to you: You will find a
baby wrapped in cloths and lying in a manger.” Suddenly a great
company of the heavenly host appeared with the angel, praising God
and saying, “Glory to God in the highest heaven, and on earth
PEACE to those on whom his favor rests.” When the angels had left
them and gone into heaven, the shepherds said to one another, “Let’s
go to Bethlehem and see this thing that has happened, which the
Lord has told us about.” So they hurried off and found Mary and
Joseph, and the baby, who was lying in the manger.
John 14:27 TPT
“I leave the gift of peace with you—my peace. Not the kind of fragile
peace given by the world, but my perfect peace. Don’t yield to fear or
be troubled in your hearts—instead, be courageous!”
What is the peace that Jesus provides?
1) Peace with God
Colossians 1:19-22 NLT
For God in all his fullness was pleased to live in Christ, and through
him God reconciled everything to himself. He made peace with
everything in heaven and on earth by means of Christ’s blood on the
cross. This includes you who were once far away from God. You
were his enemies, separated from him by your evil thoughts and
actions. Yet now he has reconciled you to himself through the death
of Christ in his physical body. As a result, he has brought you into his
own presence, and you are holy and blameless as you stand before
him without a single fault.
Romans 5:1 NLT
Therefore, since we have been made right in God’s sight by faith, we
have peace with God because of what Jesus Christ our Lord has
done for us.
Luke 2:14 NIV
“Glory to God in the highest heaven, and on earth peace to those on
whom his favor rests.”
If you have peace with God, you have peace on earth.
What is the peace that Jesus provides?
2) Peace with People
Romans 12:14-21 NIV
Bless those who persecute you; bless and do not curse. Rejoice with
those who rejoice; mourn with those who mourn. Live in harmony with
one another. Do not be proud, but be willing to associate with people
of low position. Do not be conceited. Do not repay anyone evil for
evil. Be careful to do what is right in the eyes of everyone. If it is
possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with
everyone. Do not take revenge, my dear friends, but leave room for
God’s wrath, for it is written: “It is mine to avenge; I will repay,” says
the Lord. On the contrary: “If your enemy is hungry, feed him; if he is
thirsty, give him something to drink. In doing this, you will heap
burning coals on his head.” Do not be overcome by evil, but
overcome evil with good.
I want HOW I love to show WHO I love.
What is the peace that Jesus provides?
3) Peace with Life
John 16:33 TPT
“And everything I’ve taught you is so that the peace which is in me
will be in you and will give you great confidence as you rest in me.
For in this unbelieving world you will experience trouble and
sorrows, but you must be courageous, for I have conquered the
world!”
In Heaven, we’ll have the peace of God AROUND us. Today, we
have the peace of God WITHIN us.
Philippians 4:6-7 NIV
Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and
petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the
peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your
hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
The deeper peace we walk in with God, the greater peace we will
walk in the world.
