Sermon Notes

John 14:15-17 NIV
If you love me, keep my commands. And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another advocate to help you and be with you forever—the Spirit of truth. The world cannot accept him, because it neither sees him nor knows him. But you know him, for he lives with you and will be in you.

Three Holy Spirit Truths You Need to Know:

- TRUTH 1: The Holy Spirit is co-equal with the Father and the Son.

- TRUTH 2: Holy Spirit is a Person who thinks, feels, and speaks.

- TRUTH 3: Holy Spirit is the presence of God dwelling within every believer.

Ephesians 4:30 NKJV
And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, by whom you were sealed for the day of redemption.

Three Ways Your Life Changes When Holy Spirit Is Near:

  1. You will obey out of love, not obligation.

John 14:15 NIV
If you love me, keep my commands.

1 John 5:3 NLT
Loving God means keeping his commandments, and his commandments are not burdensome.

Deuteronomy 28:1-2 NLT
If you fully obey the LORD your God and carefully keep all his commands that I am giving you today, the LORD your God will set you high above all the nations of the world. You will experience all these blessings if you obey the LORD your God.

Ezekiel 36:27 NIV
And I will put my Spirit in you and move you to follow my decrees and be careful to keep my laws.

Three Ways Your Life Changes When Holy Spirit Is Near:

  1. You will obey out of love, not obligation.
  2. You will live from His advantage, not your ability.

John 14:16 NIV
And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another advocate to help you and be with you forever.

John 16:7 ESV
Nevertheless, I tell you the truth: it is to your advantage that I go away, for if I do not go away, the Helper will not come to you. But if I go, I will send him to you.

PARACLETE (advocate): one called alongside you to help, counsel, and stand on your behalf.

Romans 8:26 NIV
In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us through wordless groans.

Three Ways Your Life Changes When Holy Spirit Is Near:

  1. You will obey out of love, not obligation.
  2. You will live from His advantage, not your ability.
  3. You will live as a beloved child, not an orphan.

ORPHANS SAY:

- I don't know where I belong.

- I have to earn love.

- I have to figure it out alone.

- Everything depends on me.

- What if I'm abandoned?

Romans 8:15-16 NLT
So you have not received a spirit that makes you fearful slaves. Instead, you received God's Spirit when he adopted you as his own children. Now we call him, ‘Abba, Father.’ For his Spirit joins with our spirit to affirm that we are God's children.

Your spirit is adopted in a moment, but your mind gets renewed over time.

A Declaration of Sonship:
I am not an orphan. I am a child of God. I was adopted by grace, sealed by His Spirit, and I have the best seat at my Father's table. I am not forgotten. I am needed and known. I am not illegitimate. I have an inheritance. I don't obey to earn His love; I obey because I am loved. I don't live from my ability. I live from His advantage. I don't fight for my worth. I rest in His love. When I run out of strength, I don't run out of help. Because His Spirit lives in me, my Father is near, and my Father is good. I am confident that I will never be alone.
In Jesus' Name, Amen.

Maybe you made a decision to follow Jesus today, or maybe you’re curious what life with Him is all about. Wherever you are on your journey, we invite you to share with us so we can help you discover your next step.

At this time of the year, our curiosity about the supernatural is on full display. Without the Lord, however, our curiosity can lead us into places He never intended for us dwell in. Our longing for eternal things was always part of His plan, and we were always meant to engage the supernatural from a place of spiritual authority! This week, lean into the message as we learn about the Holy Spirit and how, with Him as an active part of our lives, we can do the works of Jesus with holy confidence. We’re all looking for a people to belong to, and a place to belong. And, though belonging and having a safe place to call home is an important and beautiful part of life, it points us toward an even deeper longing: our need for an eternal home. But in an existence full of change and unsettling circumstances, how do we get there and have peace in our hearts in the meantime? We serve a God who prepared the Way for us long before we knew we needed one. In this message, learn what it looks like to be held in perfect peace and walk the path that promises to lead us to the home He has prepared for us.
