Why do I Need the Church?

Community is hardwired into our DNA because our God is, at His very core, relational. In fact, God cares so deeply about community that after creating the heavens, the earth, and everything in them—and calling it all good—He pauses and declares, for the first time, that something is not good: being alone. But if we’re honest, being in community isn’t always easy. So why does the bible continue to point us to doing life with others at church and home? Tune in to this sermon as we go to God’s word to get the answers and encouragement to pursue life His way—which is always the best way!

Genesis 1:26 NIV
“Let us make man in our image, after our likeness…”

“It is not good for man [Adam/mankind] to be alone…”  

Hebrews 10:24-25 NLT
“Let us think of ways to motivate one another to acts of love and good works. And let us not neglect our meeting together, as some people do, but encourage one another, especially now that the day of his return is drawing near.”

Common Excuses People Use to Reject Community
1. “I just don’t have the time.”
2. “Last time, they hurt me.”
3. “I don’t know these people.”
4. “I’m not getting fed enough.”
5. “Is it really that important?”

Colossians 3:12-14 NIV
“Therefore, as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience. Bear with each other and forgive one another if any of you has a grievance against someone. Forgive as the Lord forgave you. And over all these virtues put on love, which binds them all together in perfect unity.”

Why do I Need the Church?

Acts 2:46–47 NLT
They worshiped together at the Temple each day, met in homes for the Lord’s Supper, and shared their meals with great joy and generosity—all the while praising God and enjoying the goodwill of all the people. And each day the Lord added to their fellowship those who were being saved.

We learn in rows (Temple) but we are transformed in circles (Homes).

Ecclesiastes 4:9-12 NLT
Two people are BETTER OFF than one, for they can HELP EACH OTHER succeed... A person standing alone can be attacked and defeated, but two can stand back-to-back and conquer. Three are even BETTER, for a triple-braided cord is not easily broken.

1 Peter 5:8 NLT
Stay alert! Watch out for your great enemy, the devil. He prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour.
