Promise of Favor
FAVOR: THE UNMERITED BLESSING OF GOD; TO GIVE
SPECIAL REGARD TO; TO SHOW EXCEPTIONAL TREATMENT
AND GOODWILL FAR BEYOND WHAT WOULD NORMALLY BE
EXPECTED
• Favor is something we don’t deserve; yet we can receive.
• Favor is something we are not entitled to, but we can expect.
• We have favor not because we are good, but because He is
good.
2 Corinthians 9:8 (NLT)
And God will generously provide all you need. Then you will always
have everything you need and plenty left over to share with others.
2 Corinthians 9:8 (CEV)
God can bless you with everything you need, and you will always
have more than enough to do all kinds of good things for others.
He gives favor to you, to go through you.
You don’t know you have been favored if you don’t recognize you’ve
been challenged.
I. Joseph Wore the Garment of a Son:
“Ite” means descendant of.
And Favor-ites are descendants of Favor!
Genesis 37:4 (NIV)
When his brothers saw that their father loved him more than any of
them, they hated him and could not speak a kind word to him.
II. Joseph Wore the Garment of a Servant:
Genesis 39:1-6 (NLT)
Joseph in Potiphar’s House
When Joseph was taken to Egypt by the Ishmaelite traders, he was
purchased by Potiphar, an Egyptian officer. Potiphar was captain of
the guard for Pharaoh, the king of Egypt. The Lord was with Joseph,
so he succeeded in everything he did as he served in the home of his
Egyptian master. Potiphar noticed this and realized that the Lord was
with Joseph, giving him success in everything he did. This pleased
Potiphar, so he soon made Joseph his personal attendant. He put
him in charge of his entire household and everything he owned. From
the day Joseph was put in charge of his master’s household and
property, the Lord began to bless Potiphar’s household for Joseph’s
sake. All his household affairs ran smoothly, and his crops and
livestock flourished. So Potiphar gave Joseph complete
administrative responsibility over everything he owned. With Joseph
there, he didn’t worry about a thing—except what kind of food to eat!
- Even as a servant, the Lord was with Joseph.
- The Lord was with Joseph and he was promoted.
- The Lord blessed others on account of Joseph.
III. Joseph wore the Garment of a Savior:
Genesis 50:20 (NLT)
You intended to harm me, but God intended it all for good. He
brought me to this position so I could save the lives of many people.
How can we get God’s favor? 3 ways:
• Favor Costs
• We Receive Favor by Faith
Ephesians 2:8-9 (NLT)
God saved you by his grace when you believed. And you can’t take
credit for this; it is a gift from God. Salvation is not a reward for the
good things we have done, so none of us can boast about it.
• Give It Away
2 Peter 1:3-4 (NLT)
Growing in Faith
By his divine power, God has given us everything we need for living a
godly life. We have received all of this by coming to know him, the
one who called us to himself by means of his marvelous glory and
excellence. And because of his glory and excellence, he has given us
great and precious promises. These are the promises that enable you
to share his divine nature and escape the world’s corruption caused
by human desires.
If you have favor, it’s not just for you.
- We can give away our time.
- We can give away our treasure.
- We can give away our talent.
If you have favor, it’s not just for you. He gives favor to you, to
go through you!
Ephesians 1:3-6 (NLT)
Spiritual Blessings
All praise to God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has
blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly realms
because we are united with Christ. Even before he made the world,
God loved us and chose us in Christ to be holy and without fault in his
eyes. God decided in advance to adopt us into his own family by
bringing us to himself through Jesus Christ. This is what he wanted to
do, and it gave him great pleasure. So we praise God for the glorious
grace he has poured out on us who belong to his dear Son.
