He Gives Me Peace!

by Johnson Bowie
We live in a world where people search for peace in everything—except in the One who can actually give it. What many of us call "peace" is actually escape. We turn to temporary distractions, but the anxiety and emptiness we feel linger. Nothing in this world can satisfy the deep longing of our souls for rest. But we serve Jehovah Shalom, the Lord our Peace, who offers lasting wholeness and true rest. Join us as we explore the peace He provides and how you can experience it for yourself.
Sermon Notes

WHAT GOD DOES flows from WHO GOD IS

Judges 21:25 NLT
In those days Israel had no king; all the people did whatever seemed right in their own eyes.

Judges 6:12–17 NIV
When the angel of the Lord appeared to Gideon, he said, “The Lord is with you, mighty warrior.” “Pardon me, my lord,” Gideon replied, “but if the Lord is with us, why has all this happened to us? Where are all his wonders that our ancestors told us about when they said, ‘Did not the Lord bring us up out of Egypt?’ But now the Lord has abandoned us and given us into the hand of Midian.” The Lord turned to him and said, “Go in the strength you have and save Israel out of Midian’s hand. Am I not sending you?” “Pardon me, my lord,” Gideon replied, “but how can I save Israel? My clan is the weakest in Manasseh, and I am the least in my family.” The Lord answered, “I will be with you, and you will strike down all the Midianites, leaving none alive.” Gideon replied, “If now I have found favor in your eyes, give me a sign that it is really you talking to me...”

Judges 6:22-24 NIV
When Gideon realized that it was the angel of the Lord, he exclaimed, “Alas, Sovereign Lord! I have seen the angel of the Lord face to face!” But the Lord said to him, “Peace! Do not be afraid. You are not going to die.” So Gideon built an altar to the Lord there and called it [JEHOVAH SHALOM] The Lord Is Peace.

JEHOVAH SHALOM // “Yahweh is Peace,” “The Lord is our Peace”

John 14:27 NIV
Peace I leave with you; MY PEACE I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.”

What is the Peace Jesus Provides?
1. Peace with GOD

Colossians 1:21-22 NLT
You were His ENEMIES, separated from him by your evil thoughts and actions. Yet now he has RECONCILED you to himself through the death of Christ in his physical body. As a result, he has brought you into his own presence, and you are holy and blameless as you stand before him without a single fault.

Romans 5:1 NLT
Therefore, since we have been made right in God’s sight by faith, we have PEACE with God because of what Jesus Christ our Lord has done for us.

Romans 8:1 NLT
So now there is no condemnation for those who belong to Christ Jesus.

"Peace is the smile of God reflected in the soul of the believer."
William Hendricksen

What is the peace that Jesus provides?
1. Peace with GOD
2. Peace with OTHERS

Ephesians 2:14-16 NIV
For He Himself is our PEACE, who has made the two groups one and has destroyed the barrier, the dividing wall of hostility… His purpose was to create in Himself one new humanity out of the two, thus making PEACE, and in one body to reconcile both of them to God through the cross, by which he put to death their hostility.

What is the peace that Jesus provides?
1. Peace with GOD
2. Peace with OTHERS
3. Peace with LIFE

Mark 4:37-38 NIV
A furious squall came up, and the waves broke over the boat, so that it was nearly swamped. Jesus was in the stern, sleeping on a pillow.

Peace isn’t the ABSENCE of conflict in my life; it’s the PRESENCE of Jesus in my life.

Philippians 4:6-7 NIV
Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

If we’re going to be people who live in PEACE, we must be people who live in PRAYER.

Proverbs 3:24-26 NIV
When you lie down, you will not be afraid; when you lie down, your sleep will be sweet. Have no fear of sudden disaster or of the ruin that overtakes the wicked, for the Lord will be at your side and will keep your foot from being snared.
