Bye-Bye Grave Clothes!

by Bishop Dale Bronner
We all were born into sin and as a result, walking corpses. Our spirit man bearing a stark resemblance to Lazarus in the tomb. But by God's grace, once we accept the beautiful gift of salvation, we are raised to new life through Christ. Still, even after receiving this gift, it's tempting to wrap ourselves back up in the old life we left behind, one that only brings decay. Whether you feel like you're dancing on your grave or trying to climb out of the hole you've found yourself in, tune in for hope, encouragement, and a call to choose life over death as we wait on God's good promises for those who live fully surrendered to Him. Sermon Notes

John 11:38-44 (NKJV)
38 Then Jesus, again groaning in Himself, came to the tomb. It was a cave, and a stone lay against it. 39 Jesus said, “Take away the stone.”
Martha, the sister of him who was dead, said to Him, “Lord, by this time there is a stench, for he has been dead four days.”
40 Jesus said to her, “Did I not say to you that if you would believe you would see the glory of God?” 41 Then they took away the stone from the place where the dead man was lying. And Jesus lifted up His eyes and said, “Father, I thank You that You have heard Me. 42 And I know that You always hear Me, but because of the people who are standing by I said this, that they may believe that You sent Me.” 43 Now when He had said these things, He cried with a loud voice, “Lazarus, come forth!” 44 And he who had died came out bound hand and foot with graveclothes, and his face was wrapped with a cloth. Jesus said to them, “Loose him, and let him go.”

1 Corinthians 3:9 (NKJV)
For we are God’s fellow workers...

Galatians 5:1 (ESV)
For freedom Christ has set us free; stand firm therefore, and do not submit again to a yoke of slavery.

Galatians 5:7 (ESV)
You were running well. Who hindered you from obeying the truth?

John 11:11 (NKJV)
...Our friend Lazurus sleeps, but I go that I may wake him up.

Jeremiah 29:11 (NIV)
For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.

John 12:9-11 (NKJV)
9 Now a great many of the Jews knew that He was there; and they came, not for Jesus’ sake only, but that they might also see Lazarus, whom He had raised from the dead. 10 But the chief priests plotted to put Lazarus to death also, 11 because on account of him many of the Jews went away and believed in Jesus.

Hebrews 11:4 (NLT)
It was by faith that Abel brought a more acceptable offering to God than Cain did. Abel’s offering gave evidence that he was a righteous man, and God showed his approval of his gifts. Although Abel is long dead, he still speaks to us by his example of faith.

Hebrews 11:13 (NLT)
All these people died still believing what God had promised them. They did not receive what was promised, but they saw it all from a distance and welcomed it. They agreed that they were foreigners and nomads here on earth.

Hebrews 11:35-39 (NLT)
35 Women received their loved ones back again from death.
But others were tortured, refusing to turn from God in order to be set free. They placed their hope in a better life after the resurrection. 36 Some were jeered at, and their backs were cut open with whips. Others were chained in prisons. 37 Some died by stoning, some were sawed in half, and others were killed with the sword. Some went about wearing skins of sheep and goats, destitute and oppressed and mistreated. 38 They were too good for this world, wandering over deserts and mountains, hiding in caves and holes in the ground.
39 All these people earned a good reputation because of their faith, yet none of them received all that God had promised.

Maybe you made a decision to follow Jesus today, or maybe you’re curious what life with Him is all about. Wherever you are on your journey, we invite you to share with us so we can help you discover your next step.

At this time of the year, our curiosity about the supernatural is on full display. Without the Lord, however, our curiosity can lead us into places He never intended for us dwell in. Our longing for eternal things was always part of His plan, and we were always meant to engage the supernatural from a place of spiritual authority! This week, lean into the message as we learn about the Holy Spirit and how, with Him as an active part of our lives, we can do the works of Jesus with holy confidence. We’re all looking for a people to belong to, and a place to belong. And, though belonging and having a safe place to call home is an important and beautiful part of life, it points us toward an even deeper longing: our need for an eternal home. But in an existence full of change and unsettling circumstances, how do we get there and have peace in our hearts in the meantime? We serve a God who prepared the Way for us long before we knew we needed one. In this message, learn what it looks like to be held in perfect peace and walk the path that promises to lead us to the home He has prepared for us.
