Compassion in Action Weekend
October 4th & 5th, 2008

Do you have a passion for serving and ministering to others, to help people in need? Then get ready for UNITE! Compassion in Action Weekend. Each year since 2003, during the first weekend of October, churches across metro Atlanta partner together to serve the community. We think of Compassion in Action Weekend as an "Open House" celebration of serving. It's a great time for churches to get started serving and to learn about and partner with other churches, ministries and non-profit organizations. However, the vision of Unite! churches is not to just focus on one weekend of serving per year, but for Compassion in Action Weekend to be a catalyst to churches serving the community together all year long.

What You Can Do:

  1. Work with others in your V•Group to develop a project that focuses on at least one of Unite's "Areas of Impact:" Poverty (i.e. Homelessness)*, Education (i.e. Serving Public Schools)*, Justice (i.e. Child Sex Trafficking), and Family (i.e. Helping Broken Marriages & Families).
  2. Ask your District coach for ideas and information
  3. Look for ways to serve those inside and outside of relationship with God.
  4. Serve neighbors, schools or non-profits in your community, many of whom desperately need churches to participate in providing volunteers and financial assistance.

*The highest areas of need for the Atlanta area are food drives to restock local food banks and improvement projects for local schools. Visit the following sites which outline how to establish a project dealing with these areas:

Of course you and your V•Group can choose a project outside of these areas. For example, some V•Groups have contacted their local nursing homes and women's shelters.

We suggest you talk it up in your V•Group. What we find that works best is to appoint a person to investigate each of the areas of focus with which the group wants to get involved, and have that person report back to the V•Group. The most important thing is to encourage your group to "get out and get involved". Show the love of Jesus outside the four walls of the church.
